SEO Your CV and Your Cover Letter

SEO Your CV

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is the tips and techniques used to ensure that the search engines can find content online. One element of this is using the right language to connect to people conducting online searches – putting the right keywords onto the website is essential. The same should be true of your CV.

Make sure that you choose a CV template that talks the right kind of talk. The people reading your CV or your application form are familiar with their trade. They will likely use inside-terms for the business that they do and it is essential that your CV contains sector-specific keywords that will catch the eye of the recruiter. Likewise, your cover letter needs to have a keyword or two thrown into it.

You’re never going to be given the opportunity to walk the walk unless your CV and cover letter do some serious talking on your behalf. If you have moved in your industry for some time this will come naturally to you.

Pore over your CV and previous job applications and put together a list of crucial words in your industry that you’d be a fool not to use.

It makes sense to ensure that all of your communications with employers are keyword rich – your application will certainly stand out from the crowd.

Great advice! You could also port this information over to a LinkedIn profile; particularly as these are searchable by Google, etc.
